Banned from Grindr? Here’s what to do

It happens more than you’d think, sometimes over something you didn’t even know broke a rule. Here’s why Grindr bans accounts, how to appeal, what to expect, and how to keep meeting men while you wait.

Why Grindr bans accounts

• Photos: explicit pictures, or photos that aren’t you (including celebrities).
• Anything suggesting you’re under 18, or anything involving minors.
• Selling, asking for money, advertising or sending spam links.
• Fake profiles, impersonation or catfishing.
• Harassment, hate or threats.
• Buying or selling drugs.
• Sharing someone else’s photos, chats or private information.

Grindr usually won’t tell you the exact reason, partly to protect whoever reported the profile. Grindr also says mistakes can happen, which is what the appeal is for.

How to appeal, step by step

1. Go to Grindr’s Help Center at help.grindr.com and submit a ban appeal through their appeal form. Grindr says all appeals must go through that form, so an email to support won’t count.
2. Keep it short and polite: the email on your account, your username, and one or two sentences on why you think it was a mistake.
3. Send it once. Grindr says a reviewer who wasn’t part of the original decision looks at each appeal.
4. If you pay for a Grindr subscription, cancel it in the App Store or Google Play so you aren’t charged while you’re banned.

How long it takes

Grindr doesn’t publish a timeframe. Men often report hearing back within a few days, sometimes longer, and not every ban is reversed.
